Meredith Kalaman & Sophie Yendole re-imagine the skies in How to Become A Star. Our demise is inevitable & our desire to be remembered, universal. How to Become A Star explores how we have entwined our own aspirations with constellations like Casseopoeia and Andromeda who’sheroism and vanity granted them eternal recognition in the sky. From the mythic to the personal, this dance theater solo asks how we mortals still seek to cast ourselves starward on this journey to leave our mark on the world despite the inevitability of death. Astronomy and myth spiral into the human effort to understand this path we connect so deeply with the skies above.
Yendole, directorial force behind Tara Cheyenne Performance's brilliant creations such as bANGER, and Kalaman, Vancouver's astonishingly fresh and intriguing dance artist, push boundaries in thisnew solo work, connecting the dots of our stories to the stars in the sky, looking up for comfort & hope when what we seek may actually be closer than it seems.
